Municipal authorities and neighborhood committees have initiated crucial drainage widening and road resurfacing work along Sontek Main Road to mitigate monsoon waterlogging and enhance traffic flow.

Following formal resident petitions submitted earlier this year, Dhaka South City Corporation contractors have commenced excavation and concrete pipe installation along the 1.2-kilometer stretch connecting Sontek Bazaar to the main expressway link. Heavy construction machinery will operate during night hours (10:00 PM – 06:00 AM) to minimize disruption to daytime commercial traffic and school commuters.
Why This May Be Relevant to Residents
When completed before next monsoon season, the upgraded drainage system will eliminate chronic stagnant water near local schools and residential alleys. During current construction, temporary diversions will be in place near Sontek Bazaar intersection.
What Residents Can Do
Commuters are advised to utilize alternate link roads via East Sontek during peak evening hours. Pedestrians should exercise caution near open trench areas and follow posted safety signs.
